December 21, 2015 – Monday
Isaiah 9:6(a) (NLT) For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Matthew 1:23 (NLT) Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means “God is with us.”
Christmas can bring out the worst in us. Mall parking. Shopping frustrations. Online worries. And then, disappointment in getting that undesired gift – even thinking about re-gifting it for someone next Christmas. And even getting the gifts you really want — golf clubs, a fancier phone, yard tools – is not so great. The last thing crossing your mind is sharing those great gifts with someone else.
Yes, seeking the material something brings out the worst at Christmas time.
Yet you and I have already received the best Gift – the greatest Gift – and that’s what Christmas is all about. Remember? God’s own Son, Jesus! Emanuel-God is with us! And it’s the Gift that neither of us deserves, right?
You know, it’s not enough to keep this Gift to yourself. No, you must share the Greatest Gift – Him, Emanuel, the Birth of Jesus — with everyone you meet.
As a Christian public servant, share the Greatest Gift. Before leaving for work, share the Prince of Peace with loved-ones. On the way to work, share the Wonderful Counselor with the homeless and needy. At work, share the birth of Jesus with coworker and citizen alike – and tell how His Birth blesses you today.
No, don’t let Christmas bring out the worst. Yes, share the Greatest Gift!
Father, God, You love me so much You gave me the greatest Gift of all – Your Son. I do not deserve this gift, but I humbly accept Him. Please let me always acknowledge Him in everything I do and say. Please let me forget my own selfishness and share the Greatest Gift with everyone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
