The Christian Public Servant – “take the rest God has set aside”

resting with God1

August 29, 2017 – Tuesday

Genesis 2:3 [NIV] Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.

Proverbs 19:23 [NIV] The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Psalm 62:5 [NIV] Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.

It seems like the more days tick off during the week, the more restless and tired I become. I “go and go” at work only to realize that, at times, the progress made is for naught. After work, I run all over creation doing things with my family, yet never spend any quality time with them. It is just “go here” and “go there”. The weekend comes and I am so spent that I forget to take the rest God has set aside.

Can you relate?

You know, we only have to turn to the Word to get the appropriate guidance. Scripture reminds us that God made the seventh day holy, and, most importantly, He rested. Scripture is mindful that He wants us to rest, too!

The most important time you and I have, aside from spending time with Him in His house, is when we take the rest God has set aside. But when we take our weekends to “rest” in our own selfish way, we negate time to truly recharge with Him.

After each day of work, do not forsake your time alone with Him. On Sundays, do not neglect gathering with the body of Christ to learn, refresh, recharge, and prepare your heart for another workweek.

This coming weekend, take the rest God has set aside. Then you will truly be able to serve Him and others better come Monday morning!

Lord, thank You for showing me where I need to focus my time. Thank You for the constant reminder that You love me and I need to rest. I pray this in Your Son Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen!
